Rep. Donna Lichtenegger (MO) talks to Travis Brown at the 2015 ALEC Conference in San Diego about trying to implement a flat-tax in Missouri, and How Money Walks to states like Texas and Tennessee where there is no state income tax.
But how can a state survive without an income tax? Where do you get your resources? There are a couple of ways you can go – a consumption tax and a property tax. When you buy a house in Texas, there are no hidden tax fees so the price is lower, but yet, they are still able to provide education, services, and keep the roads clean and safe.
Over the last 19 years, $791 million dollars has left Missouri for Texas because of the tax structure. Rep. Lichtenegger will be trying to reverse that trend in the next legislative session for Missourians.
